How Being Present Helps With Emotional Regulation

Transcript:

You feel overwhelmed by big emotions some times, yeah? I've learned that staying present makes it easier to regulate your emotions so can help you respond, not react.

When you tune into this moment...you reduce worrying about the future or dwelling on the past. Those thoughts often amplify any tough feelings you're having.

Mindfulness in particular helps you observe your emotions from a distance instead of getting carried away by them. You gain perspective.

Also, Noticing your body's signals provides clues about where you are emotionally. You can catch signs of anger or anxiety building so you can take care of yourself.

The more disconnected you are from your own emotions the easier it is for them to sneak up on you suddenly and overwhelm you.

I meditate every morning which helps me be present the rest of the day. You can also use adult coloring books to learn what it feels like being present, exercise, yoga, there are any number of ways to help bring your attention to right here, right now.

This is the tip of the iceberg my friend. I work extensively with my clients on emotional regulation for reasons you know all to well. So message me and we'll talk about how I can teach you to do the same.
