How a Conman Can Help You Believe in Yourself as a Therapist

Follow
Mark Tyrrell

If you have ever felt like you were a bit of a fraud, or embarrassed to charge a client for a service provided well, then like many people you might suffer a bit of imposter syndrome. That's the feeling that you are not quite the 'real deal' even though you may have done years of training with plenty of qualifications to prove it and have plenty of experience!

In this video I seek to address this issue using the example of a famous conman Ferdinand Waldo Demara Jr.. Despite his notoriety as a conman (Demara is also known as 'The Great Imposter'), I'll explain why there is a lot we can learn from his beliefs on power vacuums and entitlement and why an underdeveloped sense of entitlement can spoil things for ourselves and those we could potentially be helping.
