historical monument on the Don

Life and nature as it is

Petrovsky Gateway, or rather Kamyshevsky, is a "man–made" monument of historical and cultural heritage. It is located on the "Ostrovnaya" site of the Don Reserve near the village of Kamyshevskaya.
This is an unfinished gateway at the confluence of the Don and Sukhaya rivers, which was planned to be created in 19141918. The name "Petrovsky" in relation to it is not entirely correct. He has nothing to do with Peter 1.
The stone lining of the canal and lock chambers, technical mechanisms for opening the gates of the lock, a pedestal on the pier for fastening cables and ropes of ships are well preserved at this facility.
The gateway is located in a deserted place, very quiet and beautiful.
The Petrovsky Gateway was built by German and AustroHungarian prisoners of war during the First World War. A burial site has been preserved nearby, on which there is a stone cross, where three tablets bear inscriptions in 3 languages: German, Hungarian and Russian. The inscription in German reads: "German prisoners of war will rest here with God."
