Participation of Russian Jews in the Great Patriotic War was active and uncompromising. The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was the highest distinction awarded for personal or collective merits before the Soviet state and society, related to the performance of heroic deeds. Statistics: From 170 to 177 Jews received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, which puts them in fourth place after Russians (7998 people), Ukrainians (2021 people), and Belarusians (299 people), approximately on par with Tatars (161 people). Jews were in fifth place in terms of the number of casualties in the Red Army during the years of the war.
