Caffeine is the most widely used stimulant in the world. It is undoubtedly an effective stimulant for many, boasting clear improvements across the scientific literature in areas like cognitive performance, alertness, wellbeing, and yes, even exercise performance.

But as great as it may be, people's experiences with caffeine are hardly similar. Some see all the amazing benefits while other might actually feel worse with caffeine. And many, especially those consuming three grande machiattos daily the past several years, will likely see no effect from it whatsoever.

Outside of tolerance, there is likely another big factor that plays a role in the differences in effect with caffeine consumption we observe between individuals. And it might have something to do with genetics.
