In this episode I provide the history of the XJ version of the Jeep Cherokee, which started as an AMCRenault joint design and launched in 1984, and would later continue as a Chrysler and DamilerChrysler model. The Cherokee was a unibody design, making it unlike most any other SUV at the time, and although was very offroad focused, it's design was also wellliked by suburban families who may never drive it offroad, like many SUV's today. DaimlerChrysler killed it in 2001 for it being too old and outofdate, despite the square look being one of its more popular features. Its replacement was the Liberty in North America until the Cherokee name returned for a crossover in 2014. And the Cherokee Nation is still upset about Chrysler using their tribal name since 1974, and it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon.
