HEAT WAVE FISHING MUSSELS BAIT Tutorial :D Jetty Fishing Oceanside CA!

Follow
Sven Goes Fishing

In this video, I show you have to use mussels for bait while jetty fishing down in Oceanside CA! I go over how to gather mussels, as well as safety tips! I also show how I rig up my mussels for bait on a size 6 hook. Thread is going to be your friend, I used sewing thread which worked out okay, but any little bit you can provide to secure your mussels onto the hook helps! With mussels, I catch a lot of different fish such as black surfperch or butter perch, garibaldi, and also a mystery fish which I think was a largemouth blenny. Towards the end, I also unexpectedly hook up on a legal 14 inch barred sandbass :D it was a surprise for sure. Had to leave shortly after due to being splashed by 2 big waves, but it was still a pretty solid day of fishing. This was also after a heatwave, which I think brought in more big fish, so I think heatwave fishing is pretty good c:

#firstfishfreedom The basis for this tradition is to release the first fish you catch, regardless of what it is (prized, PB, good eats, maybe even world record someday haha). I will only keep the first fish if it is gravely wounded or gut shotted (and a species I can legally keep). If I keep the first fish, then I will pass on the tradition to the second fish, and so forth. Any day of fishing is a blessing, catching a fish is another blessing on top of that, so I want to return that blessing and luck back to the fish, so they may live another day, get bigger, and maybe I catch them again in the future c:

Gear Showcase In This Video (These links help support my channel, as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases :D)

https://amzn.to/3OyWpq4 (Okuma Nomad Express, this rod is pretty beefy, I'd get this guy for charter boats. It's also a travel rod that comes with a case, might be handy if you like to travel and fish. I like to also use this while jetty fishing because it's strong c:)

https://amzn.to/37JqGBU (Daiwa BG 4500 (paired with 40 lb braided), a pretty solid saltwater reel, great choice for charter boat fishing, can handle potentially larger catches out in sea)

https://amzn.to/3vCCgGX (Actual Fishing Bait Thread, very helpful for securing nonsturdy baits to your hook, highly recommended if you use bait such as mussels!)

https://amzn.to/3Kgo38c (I normally use braided, my default line for general purpose is 20 lb Power Pro Spectra Braided Line, Moss Green. Choose the lb you need for what you're targeting, but you can never go wrong with this brand).

https://amzn.to/3EDRdNh (GoPro Hero9 Black: The GoPro I'm currently using. Great battery life, especially when filming in 1080p. Favorite function is the stabilization option, keeps footage from getting too jumbly :D)
