Hakone is one of the strategic points on the Tokaido Highway and has prospered as an inn town since ancient times.
The Hakone Pass is said to have been a difficult pass, and in order to cross it, people used to stay at the inn towns to keep their spirits up.

I took the Hakone Tozan Railway from HakoneYumoto to Hakone.
The first day ended with only seeing the festival due to bad weather with deep fog.
The Yudate Shishimai (lion dance) at Suwa Shrine is an extremely valuable ritual that is now performed at only three locations.
It is designated as a national intangible cultural heritage.
It is said that if you are sprinkled with hot water after praying, you will stay in good health.

On the second day, I left from Gora and took the cable car and ropeway to Lake Ashi.
It was sunny in Gora, but the fog was deepening as I crossed Owakudani.
That area often has deep fog due to Suruga Bay and Lake Ashi.

Hakone is a very interesting place with many sights to see.
There is a threeday free pass, so please make the most of it.

今回は箱根湯本から箱根登山鉄道で箱根へ行きました。
初日は霧が深く悪天候のため祭りを見ただけで終わりました。
諏訪神社の湯立獅子舞は今は三か所でしか行われていない非常に貴重な神事です。
国の無形文化財に指定されています。
祈りを捧げたお湯をかけてもらうと健康でいられるそうです。

二日目は強羅から出発し、ケーブルカーとロープウェイで芦ノ湖まで行きました。
強羅は晴れているのに、大涌谷を越えると霧が深くなっていますね。
あのあたりは駿河湾と芦ノ湖の影響でよく深い霧が発生するようです。

箱根は見どころが多くとても面白いところですね。
三日間のフリーパスで周ったのですが、ロープウェイやケーブルカー、バスが乗り放題でとても便利でした。
