Gothenburg and Ogallala Nebraska Road Trip | Small Town Tours

This week, we continue our small town Nebraska road trip on Interstate 80. With every stop we make on this leg of our journey, we keep discovering more history and beauty in Nebraska.

In this video, we continue west on Interstate 80 with stops in Gothenburg, Nebraska and Ogallala, Nebraska. We share the RV parks and campgrounds that we stayed in (Lafayette Park Campground in Gothenburg NE and Ogallala I80 KOA in Ogallala NE).

We also share several FREE things to do including an original Pony Express Station, the Gothenburg History Museum, Boot Hill, and the 1887 Mansion on the Hill Museum (Ogallala's finest Victorian era home). Plus, we'll tell you where we ate in Gothenburg and Ogallala and what we thought of the Crystal Palace dinner show (now in it's 58th season!).

As we travel across I80, we continue to be surprised by all of the history and interesting stories that we are discovering along the way. We hope you are enjoying this tour of Nebraska as much as we are!

We are loving following the paths of the pioneers on this trek across Nebraska.

Did You Know?
Several major pioneer trails passed along this route in the mid1800s including the California Trail, the Oregon Trail, the Mormon Pioneer Trail and the Pony Express.

Lafayette Park Campground was founded in 1918 as Gothenburg Tourist Park... one of the original "RV Parks or Car Camping Parks" which were built to give travelers a rest as they traveled the 1913 Lincoln Highway.

At the end of the Texas Trail, Ogallala Nebraska was known as "the town too tough for Texans". The town had such a reputation as a rough place where cowboys often ran into serious trouble, many cattle bosses wouldn't let their men visit town at then end of a Longhorn Cattle Drive.

The Pony Express only operated for 18 months: from April 1860 until October 1861 when it was replaced by the telegraph.
