Round two after the chiropractor…

Skipped ahead to post the championships and thong vid but we’re back to the original timeline again in now

Shakespare to Arkles 9km.

So I fixed the audio but now had a condensation problem… I put mesh tape over the microphone but it seems to have caused excess heat causing some fogging. I often see fogging on the lens and it’s not an issue but this time it was…. Another lesson.

A fun relaxed run with the 1401. What a foil. It really does do the job of getting me from ab. I’m surprised it wasn’t my first choice for the morning run before the chiropractor! What was I thinking… I don’t think I was.

Having the short mast and good sized front foil is a dream for getting up. Match that with a narrow board and your laughing all the way. I’m currently thinking about boards and where to go from here. The axis boards are great daily drivers and get the job done and are easy to get a hold off. The north boards are equally up to the task and offer the different hull style with a displacement hull. Now I’m left wondering what is next? I want a board that makes life easy to get on foil and is then a pleasure to foil once up.

I had a hard time when things got big a few weeks ago, most of that is in me and my lack of being out in that size. It has left me wondering what would work best for me out there the next time it comes along. I have a few more experience points now which is worth a lot but what about equipment…

Is it a longer board? 9ft? 10ft? Do I want ultra narrow for board speed or wide for stability? Displacement or planning?

I see the guys in Hawaii like you do and wonder if there are just expert watermen with athletic bodies and fearless hearts! Im sure that is a big part of it but what else. I need to start chatting to more people for board ideas.

19” for my current level feels like a sweet spot, plenty of leverage for easy riding once up and plenty quick through the water. I imagine 18”18”1/2 is also very good but wonder if stability becomes an issue when things get bigger and crossed up. Maybe that won’t be an equipment issue at that point… and just is what it is out there…

So 19” ish wide that’s good, now what? How long Kalama and Armstrong have 9’+ boards and are both very narrow! Is that because to make the most of a long board you might as well thin it out for maximum speed? Or is it because at that length the narrowness is not an issue. And you don’t want a tank once up, so I’m sure mass is also an issue. Having the mass spread out over that length I’m sure is quite good and wouldn’t require extra litterage to stop the board dipping too much.

I want to try a longer board and feel it out. What does 9 by 17 feel like.. I need to know… do I need to build my own? Maybe can I just buy one? Kind of but they’re not cheap… especially with designs changing so quickly… is what I’ve got good enough? Yes. I think so, between the north and axis boards I’d have most all bases covered. It’s just that unknown day where house sized bumps and passing you by and you feel like your on a popsicle stick sized board. Perhaps again that is just the nature of the beast.

Where did these board thoughts come from here… I guess they are always on my mind.

Hope you enjoy the footage and hope you able to put up with my teething lessons on capturing good footage.

Peace and love.
