Glacier National Park

Visiting Glacier National Park was part of this trip we wouldn't want to miss; however, two things on the days we were there were things that some would let ruin their trip. We chose to see them as part of the journey.

First, it was off and on rain with drizzle in between, and the other was Going to the sun road. I guess any road construction that can be done during the shoulder season is done during the shoulder season so that traffic isn't impaired during the summer months. We were there late in September, and many of the campgrounds and the lodge were closed.

Going to the sun road was mostly mud. Big machinery was parked in every turnout. We had no intention of going the length of Going to the sun road. We weren't in a race around the muddy road, so there were times we had quite a few cars behind us. We would have pulled off to let people pass, but there were no places to pull off.

We could have let the wet conditions and the road conditions ruin our day, but we don't travel that way. It's all part of the journey. We thought the van had been muddy before. Now we knew what a muddy van looked like.

Lake MacDonald was crystal clear and gorgeous. We walked around the edge of the water. It was one of the highlights of Glacier National Park. It's a place we may return to.
