Unsung If the Earth Could Sing is a multimovement environmentally inspired choral work for SSAA choir, percussion, and cello with music by Katerina Gimon and text by Lauren Peat. This work , commissioned by Myriad, centers around the question “if the earth could sing, what would it tell us?”. The environmental crisis has been called the “biggest threat modern humans have ever faced” (United Nations, 2021) and Unsung aims to shed light on its impacts on Canadian landscapes, using choral music as a form of advocacy and a voice for change.

Glacier calls attention to the environmental impact of Canada’s glaciers melting. As a crucial source of fresh water in Western Canada, the reduction in these glorious chilly beasts is impacting water tables and agricultural practices. Their continued retreat and shrinkage will potentially lead to a lesser amount of drinking water downstream and water insecurity across the provinces. Additionally, greenhouse gasses continue to decimate glaciers around the world; scientists believe the glaciers found in Western Canada will disappear by the year 2100 thanks, in part, to them. We urge you to listen, reflect, and take steps to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions through lifestyle changes.
