On Monday, December 13, 2021 at approximately 1:05 PM Eastern, I noticed smoke coming from a garbage truck on SainteCatherine Street near the corner of Drummond Street, located in the downtown sector of Montreal, Canada.

Upon closer inspection, I soon realized that there were flames coming from the back. I knew right away tha this would likely turn into a classic garbage truck fire.

At first, the garbage collection crew tried to use a small fire extinguisher to extinguish the flames, but the effort had little to no effect.

As the garbage truck turned the corner on Drummond Street, a completely unmarked police vehicle followed the truck and sounded it's horn to alert traffic. The officer also tried to put the flames out with a fire extinguisher, but once again, there was no results.

Finally, after a few minutes of chaos, pumper fire truck 225 from Montreal Fire Station 25 responded to the call. Fire Station 25 happened to be just down the street from the fire.

The garbage truck then turned into an alleyway. That's where fire crews began to spray water onto the flames inside the back of the truck eventually the back of the garbage truck opened up to allow easier access and the fire was quickly extinguished.

The fire was mostly likely caused by a battery that was thrown out into the trash.
