FORD INTERMITTENT CRANK BUT NO START / DASHES ON ODOMETER / THEFT LIGHT FLASHING!

Follow
ADVANCED LEVEL AUTO

In today's video we take a look at a 1999 Ford F150 Pickup truck with a V6 4.2l engine. The customer complaint is that the truck will randomly not start. The engine cranks and turns over but it will not fire up and run. Upon initial inspection, I found that during the time that the vehicle wouldn't start, the odometer on the instrument cluster did not read any numbers. Only dashes. Also, the antitheft or security light would blink rapidly. This was something I was familiar with. Usually this means that we have a communication problem with the engine computer or PCM. I suspect a bad relay, a faulty diode or maybe even a bad ground. The only problem is, I can not duplicate or recreate the concern. This makes diagnosing the fault very difficult.
