I am not talking about things like brakes, suspension and other wearable items. I am exploiting all the major flaws of second generation Ford Escape:

1. RUST RUST RUST
2. ENGINE OIL LEAKS (3.0L V6)
4. TRANSMISSION ISSUES

I believe this video will give you an idea what to look at when buying an Escape. Main thing to look at is the rust. Rear quarter panel rust and rocker panel rust are a serious safety concern. Liftgate rust is more of a cosmetic issue.

Engine oil leaks on Ford Escape to look for: timing cover gasket, oil pan gasket, front crankshaft seal.

Transmission issue: torque converter, transmission slipping and shifting rough. Always test drive the vehicle. Always do a transmission flush with OEM transmission oil if you decide to buy an Escape.
