Fencing in our Great Pyrenees. I didn't want to but we had to do it!

If you've been following our channel, you know about the trouble we've been having with keeping our Great Pyrenees, Betty & Bernard, from escaping the property. Well, the ecollar is no longer enough to keep them home since their instincts to go after predators are just too strong.

Using the ecollar has allowed them to have free and full access to anywhere on our property, which has kept all wildlife at bay, but now they no longer have free range which means its only a matter of time before the coyotes and other wildlife figure it out. Our chickens and coop are no longer protected by them with this fencing solution and with the active coyote presence I feel its only a matter of time before something bad happens to our chickens. The trade off is we're keeping our dogs safe, for now.

As of the posting of this video, we're one week into this fencing solution and so far they have not made any escapes nor has there been evidence of any attempts to escape despite the continued coyote presence. While it's working so far to keep them home, it isn't allowing them to protect our entire property.

While I do believe the ecollars work in discouraging them from roaming for no reason, the truth is its only a mental barrier for them. The temporary discomfort of any shock or pain is worth it for them to go after coyotes. If you're considering the use of ecollars for your great pyrenees, I'd say its better than nothing but be prepared to come up with a better solution. The collars worked for us flawlessly for 3 years, but now it only works when Betty & Bernard want it to work. They're smart dogs driven by instinct.
