The 2023 Qatar Grand Prix will go down as one of the most historic as well as one of the strangest race weekends in Formula 1. For the historic, Max Verstappen won his third world championship at the beginning of October, signifying just how dominant he has been. Oscar Piastri took his first "win" in Formula 1, by finishing first in the sprint, tasting victory in his rookie season in the sport. As for the strange, Verstappen won his championship on a Saturday. Something that only five other drivers in F1 history have done. Also, the Grand Prix had an extra tenminute practice session on Saturday morning, as well as a maximum lap limit for each tire stint. Verstappen won the title on Saturday after title rival Sergio Perez got involved in a threecar crash with Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Ocon. The other big crash of the weekend came in the race when the two Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell collided at the very first turn on the very first lap. Elsewhere, drivers all up and down the grid struggled to make it to the end whilst staying conscious. Logan Sargeant had to retire due to heat exhaustion. Almost every driver recalled the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix as the hardest race they have ever competed in.
