CARTOON EVOLUTION #12

I take a look at the history and evolution of Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, the hilariously wild creations of legendary animator Chuck Jones, debuting in 1949.
Developed as a satirical parody on the popular chase cartoons of the 1940s, the pair accidentally revolutionized the formula and influenced animated films thereafter.
While the pair didn’t evolve a great deal visually, over time, their stylistic and narrative style did, with Jones creating a template which would change the face of cartoons and animated gagwork forever. I take a look at how the characters have evolved and how animators at both Warner Bros. and DePatieFreleng Enterprises changed their look, and visual style.
