The Ethiopian military buildup continued unabated on Friday (12/06) in frontline villages along the contested border with Eritrea. Militia and tanks were seen digging in along a 20 kilometre stretch between Adigrat and the bordertown of Zala Ambessa. The monthlong conflict between the two countries, which escalated alarmingly this week and has killed scores of people, has frozen trade between the Horn of Africa neighbours. Fighting opened up along three fronts on the 1,000kilometre (600mile) border this week, with the Ethiopians ominously massing forces inland from Assab on the border's far eastern edge near Djibouti.
