Engine Crane Hydraulic Seal Replacement

Follow

This video is a step by step demonstration on how I replaced the ucup seal, pump oring, and pump wiper seal on the 8ton long ram jack that's on my 2ton Torin engine crane. This engine crane was purchased around 2007 and is all original. The ucup seal deteriorated over time and caused a loss of pressure in the hydraulic cylinder. Because of this the ram would no longer extend when the pump was actuated. I also replaced the oring and wiper seal, in the pump assembly, because they were worn out and the oring was not sealing properly either.
Please note that this is not a complete rebuild. I reused the other seals in the jack that were still functioning properly because I needed to use the engine crane and didn't have time for a complete rebuild. I suggest replacing all seals in the jack, if possible. I plane to completely rebuild my engine crane and long ram jack when time permits.

My total cost for the seals was about $5.68(purchased at a local hydraulic parts supply) and the tractor fluid was $20.21(for 1 gallon and I only used about 3 cups). The cost of parts and fluid was a fraction of the cost of buying a new jack!

This video is for informational purposes only. Hydraulic parts should be serviced and repaired by qualified professionals. Mistakes made during the repair of engine crane jacks can result in property damage or personal injury/death.
