What was it like to cross a continent in a covered wagon?

"Emigrant Road" follows the pioneer trail 2,000 miles across the American West from Independence, Missouri to the Willamette Falls near Portland, Oregon, features the annual wagon train river ford reenactment at Three Island Crossing, Idaho, and takes an unprecedented closeup look at the historic, original paintings by William Henry Jackson at Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. Comparing what the pioneers saw then to those same views today, awardwinning filmmaker James R. Tompkins guides us through the ages, sharing the personal trail diaries of many of those who made the treacherous journey.

"Emigrant Road" was one of the first digital Travel Adventure Cinema shows (also known as Travelogues), evolving from a 100yearold art form that has now all but disappeared from the American cultural landscape. It was presented live (narrated from the stage) at performing arts venues, college theaters, high school auditoriums, and community centers all over the United States between 1997 and 2007. Performances included Carnegie Music Hall, the National Geographic Society, the SunDome, and the Universities of Utah, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and many others, usually as a part of a season of travel film lectures presented by local organizations.
