AN AMAZING PROPERTY: this vacation/mansion was built almost a hundred years and is situated at Bok Gardens about an hour south of Disney. When you think of Florida, you don't think of history as everything is so new and modern. Video shows the manicured grounds. Admission inside costs a few dollars and is well worth the visit, with trained volunteers sharing stories of the house and gardens.

The gardens are amazing, very special. Florida is super flat. Miami is only 6 feet above sea level. Orlando is way up there in 'the thin air' at 82 feet above sea level. Box Tower is built on 'Iron Mountain', which is 295 feet above sea level, making it one of the highest points in all of Florida. The highest point in the state is 345 feet above sea level. How you can call a 295 hill a mountain is beyond me. Putting that aside, there is a view from the base of Box Tower which you will see in the video. The garden estate is surrounded by orange groves. Think where Tropicana comes from.

The gardens were designed by Frederick law Olmstead. I'd never heard of the guy before. He's no slouch. This brilliant man designed NYC's Central Park, the grounds of the US capital (White House, National Mall and Jefferson Memorial), the grounds at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville North Caroline, and apparently, Bok Tower Gardens. I've had the pleasure of visiting all of these places noted directly above, which makes me a Frederick Law Olmstead groupie. Who would have thought.
