Egyptian Mau Kitten - Example of training kitten to not bite and claw hands

Egyptian Maus are the greatest cats on this planet. They are HIGHLY intelligent. However, they can also be very sensitive. Your Egyptian Mau wants to please you. But they require very gentle training, a little patience, and plenty of praise. They learn very fast and only need gentle cues to remind them of their manners.

The kitten in this video has not quite learned that hands are not toys, so we are working on that. Notice, that each time he bites or claws, I say "be nice" and pull my hand away (he loves to be petted, so this is a punishment). He wants to be petted, so will get the idea that he loses that each time he does this behavior. A moment later, he is offered my hand again. He can have my hand as long as he is good. Once he bites or claws, it gets taken away. In a very short time he learns that the cue "be nice" means that he needs to stop that undesirable thing he's doing.
"good boy" is used to let him know that he was correct to stop the behavior when given the cue.

Occasionally a slight elevation in voice is needed, just enough to get the attention of a rambunctious youngster, but never loud enough to scare the kitten. You want him to know he is always safe with you. Very gentle training is almost always enough to train your Egyptian Mau kitten. They want to fit in with the family, and they want to be your favorite companion. They just might need you to help them understand the rules.

Once your kitten knows he is always safe with you, knows the expected rules, and knows you love him, you have yourself a best friend, kittyspouse, MauMan (or MauWoman), or however, you wish to define it. I prefer the term soulcat.
