Echo SRM 225 Weed Trimmer Won't Start - Why?

Follow
The Lawnmower Lady

Learn how to diagnose an Echo SRM 225 that won't start possibly due to bad crank seals or leaky exhaust gaskets without special tools. This problem is common for many a 2stroke trimmer, garden tool, chain saw, strimmer or blower made by Echo, Stihl, Husqvarna, Shindaiwa, Ryobi, and many others. This tutorial can help you to understand why your 2stroke trimmer or blower is difficult to start or won't stay running. Sometimes a clogged muffler or spark arrester screen will alter the ratio of fuel/air flow on your 2T machine.

00:00 I'm not Will
01:10 Inspect fuel lines, spark plug, and fuel filter
02:23 Remove top cover to inspect spark arrester
05:16 Clean oil and carbon deposits
07:56 Remove recoil starter
09:12 Inspect crankcase and piston
10:19 Poor man's pressure/leak test
14:05 Reassemble baffle and shroud

The tools I like and use most often:
Magnetic spark plug socket set: https://amzn.to/3CzmpvO
Tachometer: https://amzn.to/3sHibiH
Vessel Megadora JIS screwdriver set: https://amzn.to/363RFqO
Channellock Bent Needlenose pliers: https://amzn.to/3I5DbnA
Long 1/4 Quickconnect Torx Driver Bits: https://amzn.to/3HUNgnm
Spark Tester: https://amzn.to/3CxW2qi
OTC Leakdown Test Kit: https://amzn.to/3CyUhJn
Compression Tester: https://amzn.to/3IWd6sp

Wear your safety glasses, or you'll put your eye out. Try on some gloves. Take off that spark plug boot. Clean your room. Open the windows, those fumes are nasty. Just 'cause I do it, don't think it's the end all, be all solution. There's plenty more ideas out there, I can't take responsibility if you slice off a few fingers after watching my videos. And don't just pour that toxic stuff down the sewer or in the ditch, dispose of waste responsibly. Just be safe, OK?
