NDS Stormwater Management and Drainage Systems

No one wants puddles of standing water in their yard. Not only are they eyesores, but they can also cause slip hazards and costly property damage. With NDS® Catch Basins that surface water is captured and directed through drain pipe for proper release downstream.

BENEFITS OF A HAVING DRAINAGE SYSTEM
Having the right drainage system for your property can ensure the proper removal of rainwater and runoff which can puddle in low spots in your yard, creating slip hazards, mildew, and mosquito breeding grounds. Implementing an appropriate drainage system can also prevent costly property damage from water puddling near the foundation of your home. A drainage system has three major phases: collection, conduction, and discharge. Catch Basins are a commonly used method to collect surface water that puddles in low spots in the landscape.

WHAT IS A CATCH BASIN?
Catch basins drain moderate flows of water from lawns, landscaped areas, under downspouts, patios, and walkways and direct the runoff through attached pipe to a discharge point downstream. These catch basins are available in kits to make installation easier and cost efficient. The basin sump area features 4 weephole knockouts to drain standing water, cutout guides on sides for both 3 in. and 4 in. S&D pipes at 2 elevations for side inletting and outletting, and cutout guides on the sides and bottom for additional keyed outlet openings if needed.

CATCH BASIN INSTALLATION STEPS
Begin by analyzing topography of landscape: identify and mark low spots and water sources, note hardscape structures that obstruct water flow like retaining walls, edging, and walkways
Identify a proper discharge point: design system from discharge point towards high spot
Dig a trench to accommodate catch basin and pipe used
Dig a hole with a depth equal to the height of the catch basin plus 34 in.
Add 34 in. of crushed stone or gravel to the hole so that the top of the catch basin is level with the top surface of the landscape
Connect universal adapter to catch basin
Punch out or drill small holes in the bottom of the catch basin to allow water trapped in sump area to drain
Place catch basin in hole and connect drainage pipe to catch basin with duct tape
Make sure drain pipe is sloped properly: Recommended 1.25 in. slope for every 10 feet for smooth wall pipe; recommended 2.5 in. slope for every 10 feet for corrugated pipe
Attach a grate on top that blends with your landscape (or one of your choosing)
Carefully refill hole without disrupting the slope of the pipe

VARIOUS CATCH BASIN GRATES AVAILABLE
Types: square, round, and atrium
Flat grates can be used in areas with traffic
Atrium grates can only be used in areas with no traffic, like flowerbeds, where they block mulch and debris from entering the grate while allowing water to enter from the top
Colors: black, green, gray, sand, cast iron, galvanized steel, and brass
There are also decorative options available to add a stylish touch to your landscape

GAMECHANGING 1200NGB™ CATCH BASIN
The revolutionary 1200NGB™ Catch Basin has outlets that can be adjusted to high, middle, or low height positions. This provides over 4 in. of outlet adjustability. The basin comes with two slides featuring tabs that can be snapped off depending on the desired location of the outlets. There are also three different knockout options for this catch basin: bottom cutout (cutout guide visible in center of basin bottom), ½ in. drain holes, no bottom (bottom is cut out and removed).

As part of a complete NDS drainage system, these catch basins can efficiently remove runoff and prevent water from puddling in low spots in your yard. With NDS, you can create a lasting drainage solution easily and inexpensively. Start planning your drainage project today!
