Do British Shorthair Cats Like To Be Picked Up And Cuddled?

British Shorthair cats don’t always like cuddles, but that doesn’t mean they don’t love their owners! You will find that British Shorthair cats do often like their often space, but would still like you to be nearby for comfort.

Unlike other breeds of cats which will happily accept being picked up and cuddles, this breed often does not actually enjoy this. This is because British Shorthair cats actually like to approach their owners when they want affection, as opposed to their owners forcing this affection on them.

Don’t take it personally though, as British Shorthair cats do not need the constant cuddles and affection to remain happy. This breed of cat is content with a lazy lifestyle, matched with the fact they are mostoften kept as indoor house cats.

If you hold your British Shorthair cat for long periods of time then you will notice they do not purr and will try to wriggle free. Like we say, it’s a matter of them choosing when they want affection which is absolutely fine for them.
The British Shorthair cat will often cuddle up next to you, or on your lap. They show their affection in other ways and therefore it is not a bad thing for them to hate being picked up for cuddle time.

If you are a cat owner who loves to pick up your cats and give them a squeeze then a British Shorthair cat will not be the best cat breed for you. British Shorthair cats cannot be trained to enjoy being picked up and have cuddles, despite what you might read online or hear from other owners.

If you find that your British Shorthair cat does enjoy the affection we discussed, then it is more than likely that your cat may not be a purebred, or just happens to be slightly different. The difficulty with cats is that without correct documentation you do not know your cats family history and therefore they may not be purebreds.

British Shorthair cats may appear annoyed with too much attention and affection, and therefore it is key to read your cats reaction and give them space if they need it.
