(4/25/24) It’s kind of rare to come across the deer doing their “hind legs walking thing” reaching for some luscious leaves off the cherry tree but on this day that’s exactly what I came upon. I had grabbed some apples to feed them and headed for the back yard because I saw them going in that direction. When I rounded the corner there was Little One and Micro at the tree working it over. Those two have been hanging out together quite a bit lately. They seem to be forming a bond. Mother probably wants to get Little One set up with a friend so that when her birthing time comes, she can go off and deal with it and Little One won’t feel so alone. Good for Micro too.

But how they love eating leaves off that tree! And bits of lichen too. I love watching Micro up on her hind legs precariously balancing whilst grabbing a mouthful of leaves and bringing them down and chomping away. Sometimes she does this little hop thing when she comes down. Very amusing little fawn! It’s really nice to be able to be so close and watch this all play out. Afterwards I fed some apples to Little Buck and Mother but that was off camera as it had gotten too dark. Little One and Micro disappeared into the dusk.
