Today I am talking and explaining the process I did to remove the black anodized color off my budget cranks! Process was super easy and honestly, fast! I did no sanding until the final step which was wet sanding to get the results I wanted. Below are the steps I did and things, feel free to tweak or do something different. Thanks for watching! Material/Ingredients
Distilled water
A container or something to put said object into
Caustic soda(lye, powder Drano or Easy Off Oven cleaner)
Chemical resistant gloves
Mask
Eye protection
A sink or water hose
Step 1: Pour Distilled water into a sizeable container for whatever you're trying this on. Amount of water will depend on what you're doing, I used 1 gallon.

Step 2: Put on gloves, eye protection and some kind of respirator. Add 3 Tablespoons of Caustic soda (lye, power Drano, etc..) to the water, TO THE WATER, you risk splash back with adding water to the powder, so beware. Mix with a wooden stick or other utensil.

Step 3: Be sure to clean your parts very well and then dunk them in the solution. Big thing to remember is not to leave the parts in the solution long. The lye will eat away at aluminum and could potentially mess with fittings and threads. Try 5 minutes increments. Or use the Easy off method as show in my video.

Step 4: After the solution has worked its magic take them to a bucket of water and rinse or wash them off. This method would have worked if I left them in the solution a little longer but I was unsure of the strength, so I went to the easy off method.

The Easy off method consists of spraying a thick, generous amount of the cleaner onto the part and allowing it to sit. I did anywhere between 510 minutes, 3 times just rinsing and drying them off after each time. Be sure to wear your PPE when handling the oven cleaner also. It stinks and burns your hands!
