Day in a life of a Revive! Techician

There is a lot that goes into being a Revive! technician, a lot of which is often forgotten about or underappreciated, so we decided to give you an indepth insight into the work of one of our paint technicians.

From dents to bumper scuffs, stone chips to alloy wheel damage, Terry from Revive! Portsmouth has seen it all in his ten years with the company. On this particular day Terry is visiting one of the many dealerships we work with to complete a number of SMART repairs on their vehicles.

When he first started with Revive! Terry had no experience in painting or automotive maintenance and was actually working as an assistant bar manager, throughout his decade with Revive! Terry has learnt all of the unique techniques involved in SMART repairs which also includes him completing IMI accreditation making him one of Revive! most accomplished technicians.

Terry predominantly works on Revive! Portsmouth’s trade accounts, a cornerstone of Portsmouth’s business, going to dealerships and fleets and repairing any damaged vehicles they have. Terry has also taken on the role of team leader and manages a lot of the franchise’s technicians ensuring they are all on the correct jobs along with testing any new products the company is looking at investing in. Terry finds it important to encourage a rapport between his team members because while his techs may enjoy their jobs it is ultimately a solo job which can be quite lonely on the road alone all day.

Progression was important for Terry when he first joined Revive! and following his training Terry has slowly grown from apprentice painter, through to team leader working on dealership accounts to a point where he can cover for Revive! Portsmouth owner Steve when he’s away on holiday or unavailable. Terry has found that learning areas of the business outside of just painting ultimately makes his and everybody else’s jobs easier.

Franchisee Steve, finds that in running a tight knit team, while techs work mostly autonomously throughout the day with the ability to move jobs around the day as and when necessary, it comes with a great salary, remuneration scheme, company pension scheme along with paid holiday every year. But just as important are the fun time the team has when they do come together, they regularly meet outside of the business for drinks or team building activities.

Terry continues by saying that while they work in their own singular franchises, they get to meet the rest of the Revive! network at company conferences, events and such making them feel part of something much bigger, with one of the company’s core values being Unity its great to feel the company is there to help us if we need it.
