Coyote Howling Over the Hollywood Hills - Keep LA Wild!

Citizens for Los Angeles Wildlife

You may have heard coyotes howling from a distance, but have you ever seen one this close? Sometimes, coyotes howl to communicate with their fellow pack members. However, in this case, the coyote is likely howling (and barking) to make its presence known to a potential outsider. It may sense another coyote intruding on its territory.

Coyotes are an essential part of Los Angeles' ecosystems. They help regulate rodent and small predator populations. They are also losing their natural home due to urban and residential development. As a result, we may see coyotes in our neighborhoods and must learn to coexist with them.
