Day 12 of solo hiking the Coast to Coast. I packed away my tent early, leaving Danby Wiske as I had a long day's hike ahead of me.

I trekked through meadows with playful wild hare, enchanting overgrown paths of flowers, trees and shrubbery with glimpses of golden light flittering between the leaves above as they swayed in the breeze.

I also came across the coolest honesty box... a fridge, fully stocked with anything a hiker could wish for! Water, energy drinks, chocolate, sweets, plasters, bug repellant, and much more. I took a Bounty & a Lucozade to fuel myself for the morning into the afternoon.

More green meadows greeted me as I approached Ingleby, and I met up with a few other C2Cers as we crossed the intense 'interstate' as they called it (they were Americans). Such lovely people to walk with, we reached Ingleby and its quaint charm was a welcome treat. We stopped at a cafe for some lunch, I had eggs florentine which was to die for, as well as a pint of refreshing Wainwright's lager.

The Americans left as Ingleby was their stop for the day, despite it being early afternoon, this would be a short day for most people (not for me!). I was shortly joined by Gonnie & Bert, the Dutch couple who I'd spent the evening with the previous night in Danby Wiske! We chatted before it was time for me to get a move on. I also spotted Marie pitching her tent on my way out of Ingleby, I stopped for a nice quick chat with her too.

I knew this would be the last time I'd see my friends from the trail, and I was right. I pushed on further as everyone stopped to finish their days hike, while I'd only be halfway on my own day's journey.

A feeling of loneliness & solitude, bittersweet yet I felt good. The weather certainly helped, despite temperatures rising above the mid twenties celcius, the glorious sunshine made every step so worth it.

I eventually reached Beacon Hill, a modest climb to what would be the official start of the North York Moors. On I hiked over the moorlands, taking in this brand new view of lands new to my eyes, from a height I'd not experienced since around Kirkby Stephen and Keld.

I decided my night's stop would be Lordstones Country park, a campsite a few more miles ahead. I managed to take advantage of their new backpacker's rate at a bargain!

The trail took me through some woodlands that I'd never forget for as long as I live... Wildlife charmed me at every turn, birdsong constant and melodic, green foliage the greenest I'd ever seen and flowers, trees and plants in full bloom. It was perfect, truly perfect.

Passing through a field of Highland Coos then led me up a steep incline before reaching Carlton Bank where I met some cyclists who took my picture.

Lordstones was less than a half hour away, and I felt the excitement kick in. Once I reached the Country Park, I checked in, pitched up in a quiet section all to myself, ate an amazing veggie & halloumi kebab at their onsite restaurant, and took a stroll by the Lordstones stone circle as the sun set, and what a sight. The orange horizon glowed as the setting sun backlit against the ancient stones, I felt grateful and truly lucky to experience it, and again, a memory and feeling I'll never forget.

I watched the moon rise as the sun set, got ready for bed and slept well in my tent, thinking about the coming days nearing the end of my journey on the Coast to Coast, as the next day would be the penultimate day on the trail.
