Cloudscape Time-Lapse Over Indianhead

In art, a cloudscape is the depiction of a view of clouds or the sky. Usually, as in the examples seen here, the clouds are depicted as viewed from the earth, often including just enough of a landscape to suggest scale, orientation, weather conditions, and distance (through the application of the technique of aerial perspective).

Timelapse photography is a technique in which the frequency at which film frames are captured (the frame rate) is much lower than the frequency used to view the sequence. When played at normal speed, time appears to be moving faster and thus lapsing.

Indianhead, a 3990foot promontory perched along the north wall of Borrego Palm Canyon, juts dramatically from the desert floor near Borrego Springs and the AnzaBorrego Desert visitor center. There are several true mountainclimbing routes to Indianhead’s summit, but probably only one route is decently accessible to mere hikers. Those hikers, though, must possess a good sense of balance and have a fair share of enduring leg strength. This nononsense hike — 7 miles out and back for the round trip (from the Borrego Palm Canyon Campground parking lot), perhaps seven hours worth of walking and scrambling, and involving an elevation gain and loss of 3200 feet.
