Coyote Canyon is the primary path of Coyote Creek, a meandering 35mile monument to AnzaBorrego history and Mountain Cahuilla civilization. It offers challenges to backpackers, horseback riders, mountain bikers, and 4wheel drive enthusiasts, and opportunities for dayhikers to get away from welltravelled roads.

Coyote Canyon can be approached from Borrego Springs in the south and Anza in the north. The canyon is closed to vehicle traffic between Upper Willows and Middle Willows. From June to October 1, the Coyote Canyon and Horse Canyon trails are closed from the north. The Coyote Canyon trail is closed at Third Crossing. This year (2023/24) is different because the Third Crossing gate has remained closed after October 1st because of extreme storms that occured in 2023 that destroyed the road and rerouted the creek.
