Chrism Mass (Thursday, 28 March 2024)

Mass Celebrated by Cardinal William Goh at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Singapore.

This livestream is made possible by the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Chrism Mass only occurs once a year in each diocese throughout the world.
During this celebration, priests will renew their pledge of obedience to the Bishop. Three oils which are used in the pastoral and sacramental life of the Church, will also be blessed by the Bishop.

The Catholic Mass today is celebrated all around the world. Here in Singapore, we are pleased to provide online, the Catholic Mass live or recorded in English to all Catholics and anyone interested in the Catholic faith. During Catholic Masses, it is not uncommon to hear a homily about Catholic teachings and Catholic answers to life’s questions. The Holy Mass is beautiful and stems from Jesus. Expect Catholic prayers, Catholic hymns (Christian songs) that come from 2000 years of tradition and practice. All are welcome.

The Catholic Church has a long history of rich liturgical celebrations, and one of the most significant of these is the Chrism Mass. Held annually during Holy Week, the Chrism Mass takes place on Holy Thursday, the day when Catholics commemorate the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples.

At the heart of the Chrism Mass is the blessing and consecration of sacred oils by the bishop. These oils the oil of catechumens, the oil of the sick, and the sacred chrism are used in various sacraments throughout the year, including baptism, confirmation, and ordination.

The Chrism Mass is a vital event in the Catholic calendar, and it is attended by many members of the clergy and laity. This ceremony is a powerful reminder of the importance of the sacraments in the Catholic faith, and the anointing of the sacred chrism during this Mass serves as a poignant reminder of the anointing of Jesus Christ as the Messiah. Through the Chrism Mass, the Catholic Church continues to carry out its mission on earth, guided by the shepherd's leadership of the bishop.
