Whisker Fatigue is Real: Cats' whiskers are highly sensitive tactile hairs called vibrissae, deeply embedded in their skin to detect changes in their surroundings, even sensing air currents. They're so sensitive that if they touch objects too much or if the food and water bowls are too narrow, causing their whiskers to constantly brush against the sides, cats can experience whisker fatigue. This condition can make them feel disoriented or stressed. It's why some cats might paw food out of their bowl to eat it off the ground – to avoid whisker fatigue.
