If you have a 4x4 then like us you’ve probably dreamed of camping on a remote beach… but doing that for the first time can be frightening and daunting. What do you bring for that trip? How do you make the reservations? How do you drive on the beach? What to do when you get stuck driving on the beach? How do you find the perfect beach camping spot? What does it cost? And the list goes on and on and on and on.

We have a Winnebago Revel, which is on a Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 chassis. She’s a heavy van and although we’ve never gotten stuck in our van we had a fear that we would probably get stuck while driving on the beach at Cape Lookout National Seashore. So we did some research… actually a lot of research. And from that we learned HOW TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL FIRST BEACH CAMPING TRIP! And we’ve compiled all that knowledge into this one video so if you find yourself in our shoes, wanting to go camp on the beach for the first time but not sure where to start… well, hopefully this video will help.

What you’ll need:
* To drive and camp on the beach you are going to need offroad tires
* To drive and camp on the beach you are going to need traction pads (MAXTRAX)
* You’ll want to bring a KINETIC TOW ROPE with you to the beach
* You’ll also need to bring a shovel with you to the beach
* To help with airing down tires you might want to have airdown plugs
* A compressor to air up tires if needed
* It might be a good idea to bring along either a Garmin inReach or a Zoleo
* Because there’s no light pollution it gets really dark on the island so you’ll need a flashlight
* You might want to think about bringing a TrashARoo along for your garbage
