The 2004 presidential election cycle featured incumbent President George W. Bush, a Republican, and Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, the Democratic nominee. The first debate featured a 90 minute discussion of foreign policy, with candidates questioned inturn, followed by a rebuttal. Moderated by Jim Lehrer of PBS, it took place on September 30, 2004, in Coral Gables, Florida.
