Long, long ago, when I was at fifteen or so, I was asked which church I went to, and I said I didn’t go to church. So that person, I don’t remember who it was, as is the nature of such things from long ago, told me if I didn’t go to church, then I was a devil worshipper. I hadn’t thought of that, even though I didn’t see myself in that particular light, I pondered it for about five minutes, and then moved on down my path.

But, I continued to be confounded that to so many people, it was so black or white, left or right. In my heart I knew, even at that age, that nothing is ever simply black or white, left or right. And as I continued on my journey in life, I saw it, the black and white, left and right thing, permeated every aspect of most peoples’ lives. But, as I was walking down a country road one night, I came to understand that there is another way, another path, the “third way” is what I called it then.

After time, I became more fascinated with the Yin Yang symbol, and I came to see that it too was not about the left or the right, the black or the white, it was about that path that flowed through the center of the two opposites… the “third way.” I started calling it the Third Road over time, and still do mostly when talking amongst my selves But, it is an ancient Buddhist concept as many of you know my friends, it is “The Middle Way.”

I look at the world around me now and see chaos, division, all driven by those who seek the “truth” in either the left or right, “paths” in which it cannot be found. Only on the center path of the Yin Yang, only on the Third Road, only on the Middle Way can truth be found. The rest is simply illusion…
