Brown Recluse Spiders are a medically significant species, but bites are quite rare. Bites are a defensive behavior that typically only occur when the spider is trapped against the skin (usually in clothes, shoes, or bed). In cases where they are not trapped and have other options, they will choose to run away or freeze as opposed to standing their ground or becoming defensive.
