Railroad Switching On Norfolk Southern Main Line & Trains Passing Up The Hill With A Manned Helper Locomotive! Helper Loco Returns Back Down The Hill & Waves To Me! Another GIGANTIC Train With A DPU Struggles Up The Hill & Steel Coils Train With DPU Goes Up Erlanger Hill. These trains are in Erlanger, Kentucky on the Norfolk Southern Rat Hole Line.
First, we see a Norfolk Southern Local doing some railroad yard switching in Erlanger. While they were on one track a HUGE train comes up the hill on the other track. This train was so big that it had a DPU locomotive in the middle of the train and a manned locomotive shoving on the rear. While this train was going past me the local freight left and went past me at the same time. The Big train went about a mile past me and then cut off the pusher locomotive. We see the pusher engine returning back down the hill towards Ludlow, Kentucky.
Then a steel coils train with a DPU on the rear goes past me heading southbound. After we see this train at the railroad crossing I decided to head a few miles up the track to get some more action. I went to Beechwood Road in Crescent Springs. I got lucky and got another GIGANTIC train going up the hill. Listen to the locomotives on the lead and the locomotive serving as a DPU. They were sanding the rails and working hard.
The final train is going down the hill. Notice how cool the locomotive looks running long hood forward. It is on its way to Gest Street Yard in Cincinnati, Ohio. It rained a little bit in the morning when I first got to Kentucky. The sun came out a few times.
