A love triangle and a big betrayal.
Dinesh Karthik’s first marriage
was no less than a controversy
also saw a tragic ending.
Dinesh Karthik’s first wife
Nikita Vanjara was his childhood
friend, their parents were also
great friends. With the bond they
shared, they decided to get hitched
in 2007. However after 5 years
into the marriage, Nikita started
to lose interest in Karthik and
the marriage seemed to be
falling apart. Later, the reason
came to light that Nikita had
fallen for DK’s teammate,
Murali Vijay who is also a
popular cricketer. Karthik
realised about this with
time and things seemed
evident to him when they
were playing a crucial match
of the Hazare Trophy.
In 2012 he sought divorce
from his wife. She was
pregnant with their first
child but agreed to it.
The divorce was handled
civilly by both
sides. Post this Nikita
married Murali Vijay
and the couple have
three children.
Dinesh Karthik felt a
massive betrayal but
decided to move on.
He met his true love,
Dipika Pallikal. She was India’s
squash queen at the moment.
Though she knew who Dinesh Karthik
was, she did not like his profession
as she believed that all ‘sports’
limelight in India is stolen
by cricketers. She also believed that
the hype and fame will disturb
her career which was at its peak.
However, it is when they started
to train under the same fitness
coach that the couple began to
know and understand each other.
They first met at a marathon, then
at the gym, but Dipika was not
into him at all and even left without
saying bye to him. With recurrent
meetings and conversations,
the misconceptions between
them were clear. She grew fond of
him due to his humble nature.
When she had gone to Leeds in the UK
to train, he came all to way to
see her. That's when she knew
she had fallen for him.
When India won the Champions
Trophy, DK Proposed to her and
in 2013, the couple got engaged.
In 2015 they got married, first in
a Christian style wedding then
in a Hindu style wedding.
The couple is blessed with
twin boys. DKs love story though
is very different, it shows us that
we should never give up on
love and there is always light
at the end of the tunnel.
