Bengal cats were named after the Asian Leopard cats scientific name, Felis Bengalsensis.
They were created through breeding a domestic cat and the Asian leopard cat.
The first crossbreed was performed by Jean Mill in 1963, but the combination wasn’t perfected until the mid1980s. Today, Bengals are bred only with each other.
