And our army, in all this? Reformed by Jacques Chirac, it is about to be restructured by Nicolas Sarkozy. End of compulsory military service, professionalization of the armies, new geostrategic situation, closures of sites and suppression of regiments, moves of armed forces, reconversion of deserted sites, etc.
So many new elements and reforms underway... For 82 sites, towns and especially villages, across the entire French territory, a drama is looming: between nostalgia, economic upheavals and uncertainties, thousands of French people are are preparing to see their daily lives radically transformed.
