A walk through Bamburgh to Bamburgh Castle and down to the beach and sea!
Bamburgh is a village and civil parish on the coast of Northumberland, England. We explore Bamburgh from the village to the castle!

The village of Bamburgh is notable for the nearby Bamburgh Castle, a castle which was the seat of the former Kings of Northumbria, and for its association with the Victorian era heroine Grace Darling, who is buried there.

The extensive beach by the village was awarded the Blue Flag rural beach award in 2005. The Bamburgh Dunes, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, stand behind the beach. Bamburgh is popular with holidaymakers and is within the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

As the royal capital of the ancient kingdom of Northumbria, spellbinding Bamburgh holds a history worth discovering. All the while, aweinspiring Bamburgh Castle will be your backdrop, and you can wander down the main street, past the cosy Copper Kettle Cafe and towards the village’s landmark red phone box for an especially staggering view.

Dominant and dramatic, Bamburgh Castle’s imposing presence along Northumberland’s coast makes for a magical walk along the beach. Head here from Seahouses using the castle as your guidepost and admire its setting behind the wild dunes that sway in the breeze. Enter the grounds of this iconic, medieval fortification for impressive corridors, towering turrets and formidable fortresses. An array of events are constantly happening at the castle, such as Dragon Hunts, Ghost Tours and even Outdoor Cinema Screenings if you stick around after sunset.

The castle isn’t the only chunk of history that Bamburgh Village has to offer. The RNLI Grace Darling is a museum dedicated to Grace Horsley Darling, who participated in the rescue of nine men from a tragic shipwreck. She became Victorian Britain’s greatest heroine, and the profound event had a huge impact on the RNLI as we know it today.

If you’re looking for a cuppa between beach walks, a cluster of cafes line Bamburgh’s stonefront streets. Plus, the village offers highend restaurants serving exquisite sea food for those wanting to be wined and dined.

Bamburgh is a stunningly attractive small Village set on the Northern stretch of the Northumberland Coast. It is without doubt dominated by its magnificently striking Castle that can be seen for miles around, giving the whole Village a somewhat dramatic feeling. You can't fail to be impressed by the sheer scale of the Castle once you are up close and in the Village itself. There is much to do in the Village alongside the Castle and it's amazing history, there are impressive stretches of pure golden sandy beaches, many 'proper' English tea rooms and restaurants, St Aidan's Church and a newly renovated museum dedicated to Grace Darling, amongst other things.
