Bach - Preis und Dank from Easter Oratorio BWV 249 | Netherlands Bach Society

Follow
Netherlands Bach Society

The triumphant final chorus of the OsterOratorium recorded here for All of Bach with Jos van Veldhoven is overtly inspired by the Sanctus from the Hohe Messe. Like the Sanctus, Preis und Dank has two contrasting parts a homophonic first part and a fivepart fugal second part. The chorus ends abruptly: probably Bach's intention was to emphasise Christ's victory over death.
