If your car is starting rough or won't start at all, often times the first reaction is that you have to replace the battery. But, if you check under the hood you may find that acid leaks and corrosion are actually blocking the electrical connections. And in the winter months when you may not drive as much as usual that corrosion can happen even faster. Its actually a relatively simple procedure to clear the battery terminals yourself and keeping them clean will help your battery last longer and save you money. CRC has the perfect products for the job. First remove the terminals negative first then positive from the battery so you can get a throw cleaning. That corrosion will inhibit the flow of electricity when it gets between them. Then spray CRC battery cleaner liberally over the battery surface, terminals and posts and any visibly corroded areas. The cleaner sprays out as a yellow foam and turns a pink color if battery acid is present. Let it soak for a few minutes, then use a wire brush or toothbrush to remove heavy deposits, then rinse with water. Reconnect the positive terminal first followed by the negative. Once their clean, protect the terminals against future corrosion. You can apply an even coat of CRC battery terminal protector to the hold downs, bolts, brackets and terminals. It provides a long lasting protective film coating and it goes on red when you first apply it then fades over time letting you know when its time to reapply.
