If you are a nature enthusiast looking for somewhere incredible to explore in Queensland, then look no further than Finch Hatton Gorge located an hours drive west of Mackay, Queensland.

With its lush rainforest, cascading waterfalls, and volcanic boulders, this hidden jungle oasis is the perfect place to visit if you need to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

Whether you’re looking to take a refreshing dip in the crystalclear pools, look out for allusive wildlife, or simply immerse yourself in the tranquil ambience, there is no better place to reconnect with nature and indulge in the natural wonders of Queensland.

One of the most preferred trails begins at the Finch Hatton picnic area, taking visitors on a 1.6 kilometer journey to the Araluen waterfall, a sight to behold.

Visitors can take a refreshing dip in the nearby rock pools, a popular summer holiday activity among the locals. For those seeking more adventure, the Wheel of Fire Cascades is another beautiful waterfall located 1.4 kilometers from the Araluen waterfall.

The Wheel of Fire Cascades has a large rock pool at its base which is popular with visitors, perfect for a swim. The second part of the trail is more challenging, with uphill segments and stairs to climb, but the stunning views from the viewpoints en route make the strenuous hike worth it. Keep an eye out for the rare gastric brooding frog, the orangesided skink, Mackay tulip oak, Eungella spiny cray, and Eungella honeyeater, which are only found in the region.

The best time to visit Finch Hatton Gorge is from April to September.
