Important update: From December 3, 2019 to July 15, 2020, anyone applying for this permit from within Canada needed to give biometrics if they had not given them already within the last 10 years. On July 16, 2020, IRCC announced a biometrics exemption for this application due to the COVID19 pandemic. At this time, there is nothing you need to do if you receive the Biometrics Instruction Letter.

There is still an additional question in the eligibility questionnaire that asks, "In the past 10 years, have you given your fingerprints and photo (biometrics) for an application to come to Canada?" Be sure to answer this honestly and correctly. If you’re unsure, you can use the Check Status tool to find out if your biometrics are still valid. If you have not given biometrics before, you can pay the additional $85 biometrics fee and it will be refunded to you when the immigration officer processes your application.
