YO If youR dash light is burnt out your alternator exciter field will not initiate and the alternator will not produce current .If the light does not go on when you start the car the exciter field circuit has bin broken as this bulb is in series so if it burns out the circuit is broke , this is how the light tells you there
is a problem when it is not burnt out
