Alberta Premier Danielle Smith provides an update on the evolving wildfire situation in the province. She is joined in Edmonton by Forestry Minister Todd Loewen, Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis, Health Minister Adriana LaGrange, Alberta Wildfire information unit manager Christie Tucker, and managing director of Alberta Emergency Management Agency Steven Lacroix. According to officials, the regional municipality of Wood Buffalo issued evacuation orders for parts of Fort McMurray in response to the growing wildfire to the south. The wildfire near Fort McMurray is currently classified as out of control, burning over 20,000 hectares of land. The wildfire danger has increased in recent days with many areas in the province experiencing an elevated risk of wildfires.
